Self-Determination

The Division of Services for People with Disabilities has transformed the design and delivery of its services from being a system driven by professionals to a system of self-determination by the people who receive services.

Everyone is free to exercise self-determination and take an active role in the design of supports.

What Are the Values of Self-Determination?
How does Self-Determination Work?
What is Self-Determination?
Why is Self-Determination Necessary?
Are there any limits to the services I can receive?
What if I want a service that is not available or does not exist?
I have not had much experience in making these choices. Will someone help me?
Do friends and Support Coordinators get paid to help me?
Can I or my family organize my services under our own organization?
How will this be paid? Will I get cash?
What if I use up my budget and still need more services or if I have some left over?
Can I spend my money for programs that are usually not offered?
What do I do to make this happen?
What can I receive through self-determination?
Can I pick and choose my services?
Who decides how much money I get?
