Family Assistance and Support

Family Assistance helps both persons with disabilities and their families to live as much like other families as possible in an effort to prevent or delay unwanted out of home placement. Family Assistance and Support includes an array of support to families who have chosen to assist their family member with a disability under the age of 22 to live at home . They are flexible and family-driven and are intended to help maintain a family member at home.

Family Assistance and Support can be provided in or out of the client's home. Supports may include: (a) developing interventions to cope with problems or unique situations that may occur within the complexity of the family, (b) techniques of behavior supports, (c) enrollment in special summer programs, (d) social skills development, (e) appropriate leisure time activities, and (f) instruction and consultation for the client, the parent and/or siblings.
